Material handling

2 robots available. From €28,000 to €35,000.

In summary

Material handling is the catch-all for generic transfer, flipping, kitting and tool-changeover tasks. Eurobots Marketplace lists used 6-axis handling robots from KUKA, FANUC, ABB and Motoman, with 10–20 kg payload and 1.5–1.8 m reach — flexible workhorses that suit first-time automation buyers and can be redeployed as the product mix changes.

About this application

Material handling is the catch-all category for handling tasks that aren't dedicated palletizing or pick-and-place: machine-to-conveyor transfers, part flipping, kitting, tool changeovers. Almost any 6-axis robot can do material handling — the choice is driven by payload, reach and cycle time.

Because handling is so generic, used handling robots are the most common listing on Eurobots Marketplace. They're an excellent entry point for first-time automation buyers who want a flexible asset that can be redeployed as the product mix changes.

Frequently asked questions

  • What size handling robot should I buy if I don't know the application yet?

A 10–20 kg payload, 1.5–1.8 m reach 6-axis robot covers the vast majority of generic handling tasks. KUKA KR 10/16, FANUC M-10iD/12, ABB IRB 1600/2600 are the most flexible workhorses on the used market.

  • Can I re-purpose a handling robot for welding or painting later?

Welding yes (add the welding package and torch — €5–15k extra). Painting no — paint robots need ATEX-certified hardware that can't be retrofitted.

  • What gripper should I plan for?

Generic handling cells typically use a 2-finger parallel pneumatic gripper. Plan for €1,500–€4,000 for a quality industrial gripper plus controller integration. Vacuum end-effectors are cheaper but only work on flat, non-porous surfaces.
